International Assistance and Adoption Project

International Assistance and Adoption Project
1. How do I get the I-600A and I-600 forms from INS? Call the USCIS Forms Line at 1-800-870-3676 or go to http://uscis.gov/graphics/ to download the forms. It will take approximately two weeks for you to receive the forms by mail.

2. Do I need to have all the
required
documents for the I-600A before I send it to USCIS?
NO! You should send the I-600A
to USCIS as soon as you start your
International Assistance and Adoption Project
home study. This will allow time for your fingerprints to be approved at the same time you are completing your home study.

3. Where do I go to have my fingerprints taken?
After the USCIS receives your I-600A they will send you an appointment time and location to be fingerprinted.

4. Does the placing agency I work with need to be located in my state?
No, most placing agencies can work in any state and
International Assistance and Adoption Project some foreign locations.
5. Does my home study agency need to located in my state?
Your home study agency may not need to be located in your state, but they must be licensed in your state.

6. Am I required to travel to the child's country to complete the adoption?
Vietnam and China now require at least one parent to travel to the child's birth country. We recommend that both parents go if possible. It is a wonderful experience for you to share together.

7. Will I be escorted to China or Vietnam?

You will either be escorted from the United States or our English-speaking staff in China or Vietnam will meet you at the airport. They will see you through all of the official
proceedings and even help you with your sightseeing while you
are there.

8. How long is the trip?
The trip to either China or
International Assistance and Adoption Project
Vietnam is usually two weeks long. However, you should be prepared for unexpected delays during your trip.

9. Do you ever have only one parent travel to pick up the child?
Yes, about 40% of the time only the mother travels to receive the child. If both parents are not able to travel, you may want to consider taking a friend or relative along with you. Sometimes only the father travels.
