IAAP has been providing adoption services for families wishing to adopt from Vietnam since 1990. Since that time we have provided medical assistance, funded vocational training programs, built orphanages in Nam Dinh, Soc Trang, and

Quang Nam Provinces, and placed children for adoption with families through out the United States. We are currently providing support for five orphanages in Vietnam. These orphanages provide care and housing for children ranging in age from newborn to 18 years of age.

Current Situation in Vietnam

The adoption agreement between Vietnam and the United States expired on September 1, 2008. As a result adoptions of healthy children from Vietnam to citizens of the United States is not allowed until a new agreement is signed. We do not know how long this may take. It could be months or years.

Special Needs Adoptions

However, special needs adoptions are permitted by Vietnam to any country regardless of whether there is an adoption agreement inplace between the two countries. The United States Department of State has also stated on the record that the United States does not need an adoption agreement with Vietnam and will process special needs adoption cases as they would any case if the adoptive parents file an I-600 form and have been approved to adopt the child by the Vietnamese government.

If you are considering special needs adoptions just CLICK HERE to complete a form to let us know which special needs in which you may be interested. This will help us as we begin this program.

When you travel to Vietnam to receive your child, a staff member of IAAP will escort you. Your trip will be approximately 10 to 12 days long and you will be with other families who are also adopting. Vietnam requires only one trip. We encourage both parents to travel if possible.

Age Requirements for Vietnam

1. Both parents must be at least 25 years old at the time the dossier is submitted.

2. Parents ages 25 to 50 may adopt an infant or child up to the age of 14.

3. Parents 50 to 55 years of age may adopt a child over the age of 5.

4. Parents over the age of 55 will be accepted on a case by case basis.

The above ages are based on the age of the younger parent.

Only one child may be adopted at a time unless they are siblings.

lAAP provides the following services to its families in the Vietnam Program:

Assistance with all USCIS documents.
• We furnish all documents available for your child,    including available medical.
• We provide translations of all Vietnamese documents.
•  Interpreters while in Vietnam
• All hotel and airline reservations
• Information on what to pack for you and your child and   on local customs
• Authentication of documents as required
• Contact with other families who have adopted from Vietnam
• Visas for entry to Vietnam

If you are adopting an infant, your memories and photographs will be your child's link to Vietnam. Your experience there will influence your child's attitudes toward his/her birth country, so it is important that you make the experience as positive as possible and come back with happy memories you can share as your
child grows up.

There are also waiting children in Vietnam that are older or who may have special needs. If you are interested in the waiting child program you can click on Waiting Children. Go to the login page and click on "Register a new account". Once logged in go to the "Waiting Children" section.
