International Assistance and Adoption Project
1. Make an appointment with your County Health Department or doctor to get the necessary shots
and medications
no later than two weeks prior to
your departure. You need to be immunized against Hepatitis-B, Hepatitis-A, and Tetanus. You will also need to take Larium or
Chloroquine to protect yourself against malaria only if you will be in the remote areas away from the major cities. Most people do not need this but we leave the decision to you and your doctor.

2. Get a general purpose antibiotic from your doctor for possible stomach problems and an item you must carry is Lomotil and/or Doxycycline for diarrhea. All prescriptions should be in their original bottles with your name on them.

3. Make sure you have a valid United States passport. If you do not, a passport will take up to 4 months to receive.

4. Get some type of pouch to wear around your neck or on your waist to carry your money, plane tickets and passport. You can put extra money, airline tickets, and passports in the hotel safe or the safe in your room.
A money belt also is a good way to carry some of your money. It would be advisable to carry your money in several locations.

5. You may only use cash—$10, 20, 50 and 100's. Get the newest looking bills as possible. Do not take Travelers Checks. However hotels now take credit cards

International Assistance and Adoption Project (Visa and Master Card at most hotels and some also take American Express although not very many). Discover cards are generally not accepted.

6. Remember you are allowed to bring only $400 worth of items back into the United States duty free
